Erasing: WH Smith kneadable eraser, Jakar battery eraser, Tombow Mono Zero Ultra-fine eraser, Faber Castell Perfection eraser pencil.

My sincere thanks go to Ann Roberts (Pondspider) on Flickr for making her lovely photo, from which I made this drawing, available for derivative works via a CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 licence.  The link to her photo is Khamu Girl .

I chose to make a drawing from this photo not only because of the lovely young girl herself, but also because the shadows of her hair, eyelashes and nose gave interesting clues as to the form of her face.  The somewhat unkempt hair was additionally a challenge that I wanted to try to meet.

The Khamu are a hill tribe in Laos, and the villagers live in wooden houses built on stilts among stunning jungle scenery. Do please read Ann Robert's most interesting comment on her photograph on Flickr.

I found while doing this drawing that rather than cutting off the worn end of the Tombow eraser with a craft knife, as I had done previously, it was easier to snip a millimetre off with a pair of toenail clippers.

Edited 28 September 2014:  Photo replaced by one with better definition and more even illumination.

Love the shadows especially from the eyelashes. She is radiant. Superior work. A compilation of your study of faces from around the world would make a great book.
