Description

Graphite pencil portrait of Sweet Hot Pie on A4 Daler Rowney Airbrush Bristol board.

Pencils: Various Mars Lumograph (6H to 8B), Faber Castell 9000 (6B to 8B), Koh-i-noor woodless (6B, 8B), mechanical pencils 0.3mm/2B, 0.5mm/4B.
Blending: Blending stumps from Boldmere and Royal Langnickel, cotton buds and paper tissues.
Erasing: WH Smith kneadable eraser, Jakar battery eraser, Tombow Mono Zero Ultra-fine eraser.

I thank  DawnRoseCreation for the kind permission to make this drawing from the photograph Sweet Hot Pie-02.

I thought that the challenge in this drawing would be the very delicate shading on her face, arm and hand.  I chose to crop the reference much more tightly on her face as otherwise this, which is for me the reason for my drawing the picture, would have been too small a part of the drawing.  Unfortunately this meant that her right shoulder is now out of the picture and her right upper arm is therefore somewhat disembodied.

For anyone who is interested I took photos at several stages of the drawing and these are shown in my Scraps, Sweet Hot Pie Drawing Process.

Edit 10 Dec 2014:  Change made to eyebrow in response to just criticism over its original shape.

Edit 15 Dec 2014:  Photo with better definition uploaded.

Edit 2 Jan 2015:  Shading around eyes, cheekbones and forehead improved.

Never tried graphite pencils. Maybe I should give them a shot. This is great.
