Blending: Blending stumps from Boldmere and Royal Langnickel and paper tissues.
Erasing: WH Smith kneadable eraser, Jakar battery eraser, Faber Castell Perfection eraser pencil.

My sincere thanks go to Kaberi Kar Gupta  (lorises on Flickr) for making his wonderful photo available for derivative works via a CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 licence.  The link to his photo is Musician....

I cannot do better than quote the photographer's own annotation to his photo. "She is the principal cellist at the Youth Chamber Orchestra of Fresno and also the youngest player at the Youth Orchestra! She started playing Cello at the Youth Orchestra since she was five and now barely seven!"

I was so taken by her intense concentration captured in the photo as she waits for her cue from the conductor, that I felt I just had attempt to draw this.

Edit 8 March 2014:  I have changed the drawing of the tuning peg so that it more closely approaches the true appearance.  This was after my error was pointed out to me in a comment, which I much appreciate.  Since my attention was drawn to this error, it has been unmistakable every time I saw the picture, so I felt I had to correct i!  I have also changed the shading on the joint between the fingerboard and pegbox to try to give it a three-dimensional appearance, lacking in my original upload.

Edited 29 September 2014:  Photo replaced with one which has better definition and more closely represents the tonal range of my drawing.

Edited 8 June 2015:  I had been a little worried that it had been necessary to slightly truncate the black end of the histogram to reduce the overemphasised pencil strokes in the dark background (graphite shine obtruding?) of my previous upload.  I have rephotographed taking great care to prevent light reflected from graphite shine from entering the camera and this is the result, which shows more detail in the hair, and matches my original better.

The concentration on this young musicians face is, quite simply, palpable! I am taken straight back to my days with the Youth Orchestra playing first clarinet. Eyes on the conductor.. Butterflies in the tummy... Excitement fizzing up.. But above all, pure concentration. Brilliant Clive!
